The applicant must be a married couple, same-sex partner, or unmarried partner, and must provide proof of the relationship, such as family photos, call records, and proof of cohabitation etc.
- Minor Children:
Children under 18 can apply together
- Financial Requirements:
You can rely on a gross annual income of £29,000 or cash savings of £88,500; this amount is fixed for families, regardless of the number of children.
- English language:
Can provide relevant academic qualifications or pass the UK Life Skills A1 exam
- Accommodation:
Must provide accommodation arrangements in the UK, which can include self-owned or rented properties
- Tuberculosis Test:
Must pass a tuberculosis test
- Record Declaration:
Any criminal record, bankruptcy record, or visa refusal history must be disclosed
- Criminal Record:
The UK immigration authority will consider the applicant’s criminal record, including the nature of the offence, date of the offence, the sentence length, and whether the applicant has been sentenced to more than 12 months of imprisonment
Procedure:
- Normally need to apply outside UK
- Select standard service (3 months) or priority service (5 working days)
- Visa granted for 2 years 9 months

The applicant and spouse must provide proof of cohabitation in the UK for the past 2.5 years
- Financial Requirements:
You can rely on a gross annual income of £29,000 or cash savings of £88,500. If you submitted your initial visa application before 11 April, 2024, subsequent extension applications will follow the old standard of £18,600 gross annual income or £62,500 cash savings, with increased amounts for non-British children
- English Requirements:
You can provide relevant academic qualifications or pass the UK Life Skills A2 exam
Procedure:
- Must apply inside UK
- Select standard service (2 months) or super priority service (1 working day)
- Visa granted for 2 years and 6 months
- Must remain in the UK while the application is pending, otherwise the application will be considered as withdrawn

The UK has recently published a White Paper outlining proposed immigration reforms. The UK government has confirmed that the Spouse visa route will continue to follow a five-year pathway, while the English language requirement for Spouse visa ILR applications will increase from B1 to B2 (Speaking and Listening) for applications submitted on or after 26 March 2027.

You can provide relevant academic qualifications or pass the UK Life Skills B1 exam (Exemptions for individuals over 65)
- Life in the UK Test:
If you are under 65, you must pass the Life in the UK Test
- Record Declaration:
Any criminal record, driving offenses, bankruptcy record, or visa refusal history must be disclosed
- Application date:
All applicants can apply 28 days before completing the five-year period
- Bereaved Partner:
You can apply for settlement immediately if your British partner passed away in the UK
- Domestic Violence or abuse:
You can apply for settlement immediately if your relationship has broken down because of domestic violence or abuse
Procedure:
- Must apply inside UK
- Select standard service (6 months) or super priority service (1 working day)
- Must remain in the UK while the application is pending, otherwise the application will be considered as withdrawn

Requirements:
- If you are married to a British spouse, you can apply for British citizenship immediately after obtaining permanent residency, without needing to wait for another year
- Must not be absent from the UK for more than 270 days in the last 3 years, and not more than 90 days in the last 12 months
- Prove you were in the UK exactly 3 years before the day the Home Office receives your application
- Must be of good character; any criminal record, driving offenses, bankruptcy record, or visa refusal history must be disclosed
- Provide 2 referees for your application
Procedure:
- Must apply inside UK
- Official processing time is 6 months, with no priority service, you can travel freely while the application is pending
